Today the three students and I went horseback riding with another ECELA student from Miami named Nikki. We met at ECELA and traveled by van for about 45 minutes to the foothills of the Andes. After introductions with our guide, Mauricio, as well as our wonderful horses, we began the trail ride. This area is called La Dehesa and many mountain bike riders were also using the trails. The view was incredible – clear blue sky against the beautiful snow-white covered mountains. It was a relaxing and exciting adventure all at the same time. We had lunch at a look-out spot and walked around a bit to explore the area. While eating we saw a fox run by and noticed an orange bird in a nearby tree.
When I returned to my host family’s house I met a new ECELA student from Austin, Texas named Alicia. The whole family ate together to celebrate Father’s Day and to welcome Alicia. It was fun to meet everyone and especially to see Josefina, the 6 month old granddaughter who is incredibly cute and babbled throughout dinner (English or Spanish?!).
