The English teachers had planned a special event at the end of the day – English Day – that included a spelling bee and singing. An unexpected surprise was that the superintendent of all public schools in Santiago as well as Santiago’s mayor joined this celebration. There were TV cameras, and the children were very excited by the attention. It was quite a way to end our time at the school!
Dr. Patti and I then returned to Universidad Mayor to continue the presentation to the Special Education faculty. Once again, we found we had so much to discuss and compare. It was been a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another, and we are so happy that this relationship will continue in the future.
Our next stop (very busy day!) was ECELA for a pasta dinner made by Astrid and Andrea. This was followed by a slide show and distribution of certificates to all students who are finishing their time at ECELA. We were very touched by Astrid’s kind (and funny!) words about our experience and the chance to say good-bye to the many, many great people we met through our Spanish classes.
