In 17 short days, I will be in South America embarking on a journey of not only finding myself, but immersing myself in the beautiful culture surrounding me and gaining hands on experiences in a Chilean classroom. I feel as though it was just yesterday that I found out I would be traveling to Santiago, Chile at the end of May. It was in no time that I found the departure date of May 20th approaching faster and faster and my nerves continued to grow. Preparing to take life in all its glory and all it has to offer, I found myself becoming both anxious but very ready for this adventure to start. While in Chile, it is my personal goal to say "yes" to every opportunity that is put in front of me. I have always hid behind the fact that when I feel uncomfortable, I don't take the opportunity presented to me. I want to allow myself to face challenges head on and to be taken out of my comfort zone while gaining the confidence to do so. Not only growing personally from this experience, I want to be able to grow professionally as well. Traveling to Chile will open up my eyes to a whole new world when it comes to the teaching profession. I will see how other teachers in different countries successfully teach a lesson and see first hand what some challenges they face are. Another really exciting part of my travels to Chile includes conducting research in a Chilean classroom. While I am there, I will be looking at if teachers in Chilean schools use Interactive Read Alouds to engage their students. If they do not, I will be modeling how one works with books that I will be bringing with me. After I engage the students in this strategy, I will interview the teachers and ask them questions such as, " Do you see anything beneficial from using this strategy? " What are some things you could see as a challenge?" and " Do you see yourself using Interactive Read Alouds in your classroom?". Be prepared to read about all the delicious food I try, the beautiful places that I get to visit, the children in the Chilean schools, and how I personally start to find myself in this beautiful city!
In 17 days, I will no longer be in my comfort zone known as Buffalo,NY... I will be across the world in Santiago, Chile living my life as someone who is ready to learn and grow and enjoy this once in a life time opportunity!
Thank you for following my journey!
