It’s official! I am back at home in Buffalo and I am so happy to be back. I missed the United States and I have a greater appreciation for my country. When I look around, everything seems so beautiful. When I see the American flag on a flagpole, I admire it. Chile was a life changing experience and I will never forget it. It changed my life because it showed me how big this world is. There are people all over the world living their day-to-day lives just like the way we do but they may be in different climates and have different ways of life and cultures. People from all over the world look and speak differently but at the end of the day, we are all the same. All of us have the same wants and needs. Learning that people are more alike than different is the biggest take away from studying abroad in Chile. When I remember Chile, I remember the places, the streets, the people and the craziest part is that it is all still there! Chile feels likes something of the past but in actuality, Chile didn’t disappear. The places, the people, everything is still happening but I am no longer there. Studying abroad is an amazing experience that one can only get once in their lifetime. It is different from vacationing because studying abroad gives a person the ability to live with a host family, learn in a school- like the Spanish school ECELA, and make friends with the Chilean people. When a person travels, they take a piece of each country with them. The experiences, the culture, become a small part of you. My next journey is Italy in 2020 and I will take a part of that country with me too. I will never forget my experience in Chile. It showed me what it is like to travel outside of the USA. I was nervous and I didn’t know what to expect before traveling to Chile. I didn’t know what studying abroad experience was like and now I am not nervous at all about Italy. I remember stepping off of the plane from Peru and walking out into the Chile airport. I remember waiting in the Panama City airport for our flight home. It all feels like it wasn’t that long ago. I still can’t believe I saw a part of the world that I never would have seen without IPDS. I cannot believe I got so lucky. Thank you Buffalo State.Leaving our apartment felt like the scene from Friends when Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Joey, Ross, and Rachel move out of the apartment. Kelly, Dr. Schmidt, and I's apartment was the apartment where everyone would hangout. When we picked up our bags and put them near the door, it felt emotional. We had to take a group picture to capture the moment!
