As a child, it has always been a love of mine to travel and to explore. There is nothing I love more than experiencing places or things that are new to me. Entering college, I knew that without a doubt in my mind, I will be studying abroad at some point in a different part of the world. However it's not just the traveling aspect that holds my attention, but it's the experience of culture. I look forward to the opportunity to place myself out of my element into places of unknown to me, to see what it is like to live here, and embrace it. It is my goal to develop not only an appreciation but an understanding and love for other cultures besides my own, so that as a future teacher this will positively effect both the atmosphere of my classroom and understanding of my students. I am beyond excited to step foot in the Chilean classrooms, observing and working with elementary students. I am excited to see what qualities of the classroom that they share with that of American classrooms, and how they are different. Even more so, I am ecstatic to actually work with these students. I believe that this humbling experience will enable me to not only grow as a future educator, but as a person and I cannot wait.
With every family comes roles for each individual in the family. We see our group of eight girls (including our awesome Professors) as a family, seeing as to how we will be traveling and working with each other for three weeks. With that being said, each person in our "family" was assigned a role or a job. To no one's surprise (including my own), I was assigned the social butterfly position. I don't consider this an actual job, more like a part of my nature! Challenge is accepted!
I have began preparing for this trip several months ago, practicing my Spanish (mostly in Spanish class) which is not too great. My biggest concern is mixing my Spanish with my French, as I have spoken the language for seven years and to this day can still speak fairly fluently!
As I embark on my journey, I plan to blog as often as possible, because I love to not only share my experiences with others, but I would love to look back years from now and reflect on all the memories I made, the things I saw and the things I learned.
THIRTEEN MORE DAYS!
