I'm still in shock that this will be my second time traveling to a foreign country this year. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity, and I'm excited (emocionada) to see what it's like in Santiago, Chile. My first time traveling abroad I was very nervous because I had not seen what life was like outside of the United States. I didn't know what it was like to fly on a plane, and I had no idea what to pack and how to be a smart traveler. Now that I have one trip under my belt, I feel like I know how to pack smart. I'm not bringing three packs of 80 wipes, and I'm not bringing clothes that I know I'm not going to wear. Even though I feel pretty confident about packing, I'm nervous about the plane ride. We fly from Buffalo to Atlanta which is only two hours, but the flight from Atlanta to Chile is ten hours! That's longer than a normal shift at work! I've read tons of articles online about how to be a smart flyer, so I'm going to go on the flight prepared with headphones, food, a cover, and a pillow. I'm also a little nervous about the weather in Chile, because it's going to be their winter time. The weather gets as low as 40 there, which to a Buffalonian like me is nothing. However, there's no central heating, so I'm nervous on how to stay warm at night when there's no sun and no heat. Although there are a few things I'm nervous about, I can't wait to try new foods like a completo and see my Chilean amigos (friends) that I met in the beginning of the semester. I'm excited to see how the Chilean school systems work and to practice my Spanish. I love being away from home, and May 20th cannot come any sooner!
¡Bienvenidos! My name is Bryanna Hill and I'm an Elementary Education major with a concentration in Spanish at SUNY Buffalo State. This will be my second experience abroad with the school, and I'm excited to see what Santiago, Chile has in store for me. I enjoy laughing, dancing, and trying new things.
