Packing Our travel date is quickly approaching! We leave in 3 more days! Instead of going to bed at night, I have been gathering what I need to pack in my suitcase at 1 A.M. I simply cannot sleep because I am so excited! I ordered green packing cubes on Amazon to condense my luggage, so everything will fit. I found that using packing cubes helped because I could fit a lot more pieces of clothing into my suitcase. The packing cubes also may make it easier to separate my clothing while in Chile. The photo on the left is a picture of my full suitcase. Of course, there are still more last minute items that I need to pack. The blue duffel bag contains some of the instructional materials we will be using. This bag contains dry erase whiteboards, books for interactive read-alouds, and dry erase markers. Planning Instructional Materials For the past week, I have been planning the main components of my instructional materials to use in the Chilean classrooms. I am so thrilled to have the opportunity to teach children outside of the United States! Each of my 5 lessons will be based on a specific children's book. For each book, I intend to demonstrate what an interactive read aloud looks like. Throughout the picture books, I wrote questions (on sticky notes) geared towards children that are at different levels of English. As I read the book, I will use the sticky note to ask my questions to the students. Each lesson will be about 25 minutes long and will allow the students to get involved by asking and answering questions, participating in an activity, and interacting with their peers. Although I have prepared interactive read alouds before, I have never prepared or taught students in another country. I am feeling nervous, but am mostly feeling that this is going to be positive challenge that will help me in my future teaching. The photo on the left shows the process of creating the instructional materials. I picked a quiet spot in the library and did not leave until it was finished. In the back of the picture, notice the crinkled sticky notes. I took a lot of time to revise my questions from my first "draft." I am proud of the finished lesson (and the rest too) that I worked on that day. I can't wait to travel to Santiago Chile in 3 days!

Have a wonderful trip, Claire! Good thinking with the packing cubes. I finally invested in cubes and it truly does make packing and sorting so much easier :) I can't wait to see your photos and read your thoughts about the Chile trip. Enjoy all the new sights, foods and friendships!
